The card and the benefit
SNAP is the program. Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT, is how an approved benefit is delivered. The card works at authorized food retailers, and the monthly amount is set by the state agency after eligibility review.
Check a balance safely
Use the official app, website or phone number printed by your state EBT service or on the card. An unsolicited text asking for a PIN or full card number is a warning sign. Never post those details in a public comment.
At checkout
Separate eligible groceries from other purchases if that helps you budget. The register should use the EBT balance for approved food items; you can pay for other items separately.
Lost or compromised card
Contact your state EBT customer service quickly to report a lost card or suspicious transactions and ask about replacement. The process for disputed or stolen benefits is state administered and can change.
