What expedited service means
Most SNAP applications receive an eligibility decision within 30 days. Some households facing immediate need may receive benefits within seven days. Expedited service is still a SNAP application with verification requirements; it does not mean an online screening result is approval.
Who may qualify
USDA gives examples: very low monthly gross income and liquid resources, or combined income and resources below monthly rent or mortgage plus utilities. Migrant or seasonal farmworker households can have additional rules. The agency reviews the facts when it receives an application.
How to ask
Tell the state SNAP office when filing that food is needed urgently. Submit the application without waiting to collect every supporting paper. Answer interview requests promptly and ask which verification can be postponed under expedited rules.
If the clock is running
Keep the date and confirmation of your filing. If seven days pass and you believe the agency should have screened your case for expedited service, contact the office and ask for a status explanation.
