How two food assistance programs serve different needs.
Different programs
SNAP helps eligible households purchase a broad range of groceries. WIC provides specified nutritious foods and other support for eligible pregnant or postpartum people, infants and young children.
Benefits can coexist
Receiving WIC does not automatically stop a household from applying for SNAP. Each program has its own eligibility and application requirements. Benefits cover different products and purposes.
Where to start
Apply for SNAP through your state SNAP agency. Contact your state or local WIC agency for WIC services. Have household, income and identity information available for each application.
Check each decision separately
A denial for one program does not necessarily predict the result for the other. Ask each agency to explain its own requirements and appeal process.
